Murree or Nathia Gali?
Murree is closer, busier and has the bazaar. Nathia Gali is 35 to 40 km further, an hour to ninety minutes more, and it is greener, cooler and considerably quieter. It is also where the walking is.
If you have been to Murree before and found it crowded, the answer is not to skip the region. It is to stay in Nathia Gali instead.
- Pipeline Track. A flat forest path between Nathia Gali and Dunga Gali, about 4 km. Suitable for children and older relatives. The best short walk in the region.
- Mushkpuri. About three hours from Nathia Gali. Steady rather than technical.
- Miranjani. Higher and longer than Mushkpuri. A half day for reasonably fit walkers.
- Ayubia National Park. Chairlift, forest and connecting trails. Good half day with families.
Camping is prohibited in Nathia Gali. The Galiyat forest department does not permit it, because of monkeys, snow leopards and other wildlife. Visitors regularly arrive planning to camp and find out on the ground. Book accommodation instead.
Murree in winter, honestly
Snow is the reason for most winter bookings. It typically falls from around December to February, but timing varies year to year with no way to guarantee it on a particular weekend.
When snow does fall on a weekend, roads are extremely busy. Entry restrictions apply when capacity is reached, and vehicles have been stranded in the past.

Murree has served as a British-era hill station since the 1850s, and remains one of the oldest and best-known hill resorts in Pakistan, which is part of why the road infrastructure is old and why weekend congestion is a genuine, longstanding issue rather than a new one.

Nathia Gali if you want forest, walking and quiet. Murree if you want the bazaar, more facilities and a shorter drive. If Murree felt too crowded on a previous visit, Nathia Gali is the answer rather than avoiding the region.
When does it snow in Murree?
Typically December to February, but timing varies each year and snow cannot be guaranteed on a particular weekend. Snow weekends are also the busiest and hardest for road access.
Can I camp in Nathia Gali?

Is Murree worth visiting for a week?
